Interview Tim Desmet

Our data expert, Tim Desmet, has been working for almost 7 years at Cubis. We asked him a few questions about how he looked back on the past few years.

Once a month we have our famous “evening sessions” where someone explains to us some new technology, something new she/he did at a customer, something worth knowing. This helps us broaden our knowledge first of all, but after the work-talk we stick around and have a drink with the group. The newcomers are immediately rolled into this as well by inviting them to these sessions even before they started working at Cubis. And the ones just leaving school are immediately experiencing something similar. They get a training from their brand-new colleagues about everything there is to know in our BI world and in the meantime get to know the environment.

?

I started when we were only with 14 employees, so yes I did see how much has changed over the years. Some habits disappeared, like the dinner after an informative session when our office was still located in Antwerp. But others replaced these with ease. A bigger team allows for bigger dreams with an exceptional weekend in Ibiza as a result.

?

A perfect project would be one where I can work together with some of my Cubis colleagues. This would allow us to bring the excellent Cubis spirit to the customer and make the work a bit more fun. Preferably the Agile way of working is used to keep track of the project to prevent big surprises when we hand it back to the support team. This allows us to deliver small parts at a time and helps to keep the feeling of delivering something useful every other week alive.

?

We did a couple of nice ones, but I will pick the short ski as my number one. As Cubis is growing rapidly it is difficult to do activities with everyone involved. But on our ski trip, we had a very nice mix of newcomers and some seasoned Cubis employees. It was a very nice way to get to know some colleagues I had never spoken before.

A destination where I can quickly leave the daily life behind and focus on exploring a new place. This can be quite broad: going for a hike in the mountains, visit a city, snowboard trip… I only need a place to come to rest in the evening with some drinks and good food, preferably next to the pool. There is no specific location in my mind, only some items on a wish list.
